It is important to practice fitting your mouthguard before self-moulding. Please read all instructions carefully before beginning to mould. A good fit will provide maximum protection, comfort and retention.

PREPARING

Boil 500ml of water. When boiled, pour into large cup.

Drop your Prolon Mouthguard in the boiling water for 10 seconds. Remove with a large spoon and shake off the water.

Place the mouthguard immediately into your mouth; it will be warm, but will not burn.

Push the mouthguard into place, ensuring it fits around all upper teeth and is flat against your front teeth. DO NOT RUSH THIS STEP!

Bite down firmly and push tongue against the roof of your mouth. With a strong sucking motion, draw out all air and water.

Use your fingers to press the outside of the mouthguard upward and tight against your gums.

With your thumb and forefinger, press the mouthguard tight against the roof of your mouth

Use your fingers to press the outside of your lips and cheeks to further mould the mouthguard

FINISHING

Rinse your Prolon Mouthguard under cold water for 30 seconds to set the mould.

Does your mouthguard look like the picture in Step 2? If you do not get a proper fit first time, repeat steps 3-11.

To remove excess material from mouthguard, trim back with small scissors until a comfortable length is achieved. Prolon Mouthguards have been designed to cover all your upper teeth.

When correctly fitted, your mouthguard will provide you with a personal fitting, designed for maximum protection.

We recommend you wash your mouthguard with a mild antiseptic after each use. Rinse in clean water and dry thoroughly before replacing in the container.

Signs your mouthguard isn't fitting correctly

Your ability to breathe or speak is impacted

You need to clench your teeth to hold the mouthguard in place

You can remove it easily with your tongue

The mouthguard isn’t fitting up against teeth and gums

Your gums are painful

Any other discomfort

If your child is using the mouthguard, make sure they don’t continually remove the mouthguard and chew on it. That could indicate it isn’t fitted correctly.

SOLUTIONS

Re-fit your mouthguard following steps 3-11 in the fitting guide above

Prolon Mouthguards are designed to cover all your upper teeth and should avoid most of your soft palate. If there is extra material, trim it back with small scissors until a comfortable length is achieved.

Prolon Mouthguards comes in three sizes, so a smaller or larger size may be needed for a more comfortable fit.

We recommend for children between the ages of 6-16 to replace their mouthguard every season to ensure comfort for the continually growing teeth, jaw and bones.
